Been to Tunisia?

Off to Tunis in a few weeks and looking forward to snapping the local landscapes, but I have read lots about people having camera equipment confiscated by officials if you point it in the wrong direction. I don't fancy losing my D300 plus lenses and was wondering what experiences anyone has had out there and if the reports are just a bit of scaremongering.
Glad for any advice!

I went 30 years ago, so I can't really help, but I found this on the fco website:
"You should avoid taking any photographs near sensitive political or military sites."
At :http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-...africa/tunisia

Common sense I suppose - hope it helps.

I`ve been a couple of times and had no problems. That said I was off in tourist areas, the big roman ampitheatre, mountain villages, desert etc. Commons sense applies and means don`t shoot near the airport / official figures like police and army and I`m sure you`ll have agreat time. be prepared to give a efw coins for any local people shots in the touristy parts and don`t miss the big markets with the spices all lain out and the guys smoking around them.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the posts. I had been on the FCO website and that pretty much sums up what other people seem to be saying. but it's nice to get a reassurance that if you are careful you shouldn't get into bother. It's a part of the world we've not been to before and I've got a list of places to visit and photograph - just have to make sure that no officials or goverment buildings sneak in to the shots!

Be careful of including women in your shots, people take to this very badly. Ask before you shoot. Also, appreciate that Tunisia is a Muslim country, and they will only let Muslims into certain Mosques at certain times.
