A newcomer to photography
I am still trying to get to grips with all aspects og photography especially how to get a photo linked on this page so I can get constructive comments.
I'm hoping for better luck on this attempt.

Hello TJC
This is an intriguing subject and maybe something you could really develop. Unfortunately interesting subjects don't automatically make good pictures, and I think this image is a bit too muddled. There is a lot going on, with all the different bits of the seed-head; some bits in focus, some not. I think it would help if you distanced yourself from the actual subject-matter and asked yourself if the composition as a whole works. I would go for simpler, stronger, shapes, and either have the whole seed-head in focus (thought that might not be possible so close up), or just one small area with the rest thrown right out of focus. The the viewer can really be drawn into the picture and made to see whatever it is that attracted you to the subject. The bits in focus have a very nice texture, and the lighting is quite good, but some of the highlights appear to have "blown". Hope that helps. Keep trying - sometimes an hour spent with just one object can really focus the mind.
