Why Mr Canon why?

Is anyone else a bit as to why canon has effectively decided to replace the still fairly new 650d with the release of the 700d.

Seems a strange one especially seeing as the spec list is very similar. Don't think I would be very pleased if I'd shelled out for the 650d.

Think I would rather see an update to the 60d & a 7d mk2

Only people who would have an issue are the people more bothered about gear than the photographs. Surely you use a camera because of it ability and functionality, not the number that canon or Nikon have stuck on it.

Canon and Nikon etc hope for you to be disappointed. It keeps people keen

Personally I couldn't care less about buying the latest gear or whether the number on my camera is the latest one ( I own a 1000d by the way as it gets me by & suits my abilities)

The only point I was trying to make is that it seems a pointless & pretty hasty update to an already capable camera.

It's only pointless if no one buys it. I also have a 1000d. When it is replaced it will be for the functions and abilities of the replacement. Not the little sticker/badge the manufacturer choose to put on it.

As a mountain biker I am used to the constant changes and 'supposed' upgrades they bring out. At the end of the day the market eventually gets saturated or they invent new technologies. It's what keeps things moving.

Too true. I just thought it a bit underwhelming compared to the advancements made by the d3200 & d800. I find it interesting to keep an eye on the latest releases not because I lust after the ever new models but because I like to see the bar being constantly raised as this surely benefits all of us.

In biking i have seen a real slow down in technology in the last 5yrs. The big boom was suspension. Everything went wild and they got more an more complicated. But now there is only so many ways to make a spring go up and down etc. They have started to add electronics to gears etc and it will filter down. BUT the main point is new advances are just improvements on what is already there.

I am not experienced or knowledgable enough to comment in the same terms with photography but at the end of the day there are only so many things they can work on i presume. The top of the range, supadupa camera by Canon or Nikon is the top of the tree. The manufacturer then decides what he wants to feed to the general public and at what time. If the general public buys it then he has judged it bang on. If it doesnt sell then he has been to tight with the bells and whistles and made a mistake.

It would make no financial sense to give too much away at once when joe public, in the main, have a very short shelf life with their gadgets
