HDR Help

Hi,

This is a photo I took recently to experiment with HDR, something I had never done before.

It was given the HDR treatment in a trial version of Photomatix..
I feel that it's clearly a beginners attempt, and was looking at ways to improve it. Especially with regard to the light edge between sky and church.

Does anyone have any hints or tips on how to get rid of this, and improve the HDR feel to the image in any other way??

Hi Chris, ive not tried hdr but from what I understand the white halo is part of the process. Notto shabby for your first aattempt mate

hi i have only done it with canons DPP and there were sliders to alter the effects not used photomatix but i would think there should be something similar

Did you use one of the presets like grunge effect? You have gone overboard with some of the sliders. If the HDR treatment is applied subtly the halo will not or will only barely be in evidence. I suggest you have another go and tinker with the sliders until you get an effect you are happy with. Have a look at the presets and find one which is close to the effect you want to acheive then make slight adjustments. You can edit the finished image further in Photoshop/Elements etc.

I watched a tutorial video that said to move all the sliders to the extreme right. But I think that's over done it a bit.
I'll certainly try the ideas suggested, especially trying one of the suggested presets. I guess it's just a case of playing around until it's right.

I know different people look for different finishes when processing HDR images , some like the effect that the over processed look gives but I prefer a much more subtle approach . Just enough to bring out the detail in the shadows that you loose when exposing for the sky for example but each to their own , good luck Chris my only advice would be to keep playing until you find the finish that you're happy with .

Thanks Mark. HDR seems to come very much down to personal preference. When I can get the laptop from the wife, I'll have a play.
