Zoom browser X problem

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if there is an alternative method of retrieving images from my UK spec 350D?

I have lost the disk to install the software, I spoke to Canon but they said I would have to but it from a company called Robert Scott or something like that, they only want £11.00 + P&P for the software but its not available for download so I have to wait for snail mail to deliver it which I dont want to do.

The easiest way would be to get a card reader (as for some reason the camera does not appear as a device when connected via USB but I cant believe its the only way.

I used a 15 day trial download of Muvee Real which was fine but again I am trying to avoid paying to get my photos off the camera as it seems nobody else has this problem.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Sorry to disappoint Darren, but it is. Zoombrowser, or indeed any similar application, is only a piece of software able to read data from a card. This in turn requires a physical connection of the card to the computer and as your camera is not being recognised then a card reader it will have to be. Data transfer is usually safer and quicker via a card reader anyway.

A bit confusing is your mention of Muvee Real (never hear of it so did a Google search). Am I correct in assuming that you've used a different camera, say camcorder, with this application as I'm having difficulty in understanding how you are managing to get images off this camera using Muvee Real without having a physical connection to the computer i.e. card reader or USB connection?

You're correct in that ZB is not available for download. Updates to it are though, so as soon as your disc arrives check the version number and if necessary update. The latest version of ZB is 6.3.1

a bit of googling has shown a possible work around .It involves downloading the updated version of zoombrowser exe from Canon and some fiddling with the registry key after unzipping the file .

This fools the new file into thinking it's not overwriting the existing version.Canon only appear to allow updates over an existing copy.

It's hard to explain but there's good guidelines on the web and it's hardly pinching software if you lost a bought copy.
