Should have put your foot down about the DSLR! Are you man or mouse?

Fantastic series of shots but love the first one best, you managed to get contrast between the sea.

Cheers OldBoy glad you like them . The first image is probably my favorite one out of the set , the strips of light and dark blue is a combination of open water , waves at different distances and the shadow of clouds passing by .

Sorry mate but for this trip I was 100% mouse but you didn't hear where she was going to stow my camera gear and I don't think my holiday insurance would of covered the medical expenses to remove them .

Hi Mark, great results! Did you do any post photo processing. The landscapes are wonderful reminders of that "holiday feeling". My personal favourites are the silhouettes and the bird (vibrant greens and texture in the feathers). Reminds me that a vacation is due. You would really enjoy Pomene in Mozambique (government protected estuarie/resort) especially great location for scuba diving. Thanks again for the interesting holiday shots!

Justin

Thank you Justin I appreciate you taking the time to comment , as far as PP work goes I try and keep the images looking as natural as possible so usually just a tweak of levels , sat's and noise reduction with these shots . With the second beach volleyball image I used my sunglasses as a filter because I was shooting directly into the sun and my poor little FZ8 was struggling to shoot fast enough in those conditions .
I just did a google search for Pomene and have to say it does look beautiful and a lot like Antigua .

Great idea to use sunglasses as a filter. I've never thought of that, and occasionally I do travel light so that may come in handy sometime. Thanks.

great shots and if the foreground and background of the hummingbird is blurred a bit more the bird will be more noticeable...

Congrats on the Hummingbird, absolutely wonderful. It begs the question: How close did you manage to get?
As for the ad hoc ND filter, I remember many years ago, back in the old fashioned 35 mm film days, that I needed to use my fingers, slightly kept apart, as a ND filter while shooting directly into the sun at around 3 pm in the afternoon. It worked spectacularly well and created a most unusual harbourscene.
Regards, Erik.

Chris , all I can say is thank goodness the aviator style is in at the moment because even with the small lens of the bridging camera I don't think a pair of those little John Lennon sunglasses would work .

Thanks for your comment gulinggu , the deep DOF is one of the down sides to this little camera even with the aperture wide open but I agree with you it would have made more impact .
This shot is a bit better ( DOF speaking ) it's of the slightly larger Green Humming Bird , the other image is of the smaller Crested Green Humming Bird .

Thanks Erik , although these are wild birds flying around the hotel grounds they are use to people and you can if your careful get reasonably close but the X12 zoom on the FZ8 helps too .
I have heard of using your hand as a filter before but on long exposures and as a kind of grad filter .

Thanks again all Mark
