Canon speed lites

Hi guys I'm a new member to the forum and also very new to photography, looking for a bit of advice , I have a 60d and recently purchased 2 x 430exii , due to my lack of knowledge I was hoping to use one as the master the other as a slave after looking through the manual I now know that this is not the case both can only be used as slaves.
I have contacted canon who have advised that I need to purchase a 580 exII to use my flashes as slaves.
Does any body know if there is any other way or does it have to be a 580 exII or can an alternative be used ?

I am not sure if you can use another brand flash as a master with the 430. If you can, they are much cheaper than the way overpriced 580.

I also edited the thread title, I assumed you meant lites and not litres

Hi and thanks, the price of the 580 is way overloaded hence the reason for the question and cry for help, would be nice if the cheaper makes would work.
Thanks also for the editing

Can you guys tell me if I need one of these yongnuo's for each of my 430 exII, can I use them on or off camera? The price difference is quite considerable and definitely worth a try.
I would like to thank you all so much for your help in this matter.

it looks like you will need 3 units
1 for the camera and 1 for each speedlite making 3 in total

how they work is you would have 1 on the camera hot shoe set as a transmitter and the other 2 set as receivers for each speedlight

do some research on them ( did you read the link i provided ? ) these are quite versatile radio triggers with Ettl , high speed sync and a whole lot more
in the speedlight world these are a bit of a bargain considering what you can pay to essentially do the same thing
