Question Square filter system

Hi all, having been looking around the forum I can't find an answer to my rather basic question...

I purchased a Kood P series holder and a circular polarising filter to use in it. I know this type of filter should fit in the thin slot nearest the lens but the silly question is how tight a fit should it be?
Surely it should be just snug enough to stay put but I can't even get the filter into the holder

Although I purchased via an eBay shop the seller has their own website and I have seen their name on older posts in the forum as a recommended supplier of these products, so I was fairly confident in the quality of goods I would receive.

As I said silly question really but I'm doubting my own mind here.

The closest? Usually a CPL for square holders fits on the outside on a ring. Hmmm I just googled and saw what you are talking about for the first time. I was thinking like this:

Sorry to confuse you donoreo, I probably didn't describe it very well.

Anyway I sent the holder and filter back and got a refund, will look at the price of screw in polarisers as I've only got a couple of lens sizes to consider.

If you ever want to stack filters like ND grads and a polarizer, you need a square holder for it. As I said, I had only seen CPLs go on the outside and never the inside before.

Money saving tip get a thin polariser filter like a hoya pro for the largest lens and purchase a step down ring so the same polariser can be used on the smaller lens.

Thanks for the advice Dave, I now have a 72mm circular polariser looking forward to some sunny days to try it out

Kood and Cokin (and others for all I know!) use the same basic system of three slots for the square filters and a narrower slot at the back for the circular filters; i.e. CPL, Star etc.

To answer Chris' specific question, the fit should be snug but still allow fairly free rotation. Getting them in and out is often a bit of a struggle, but you don't want them to fall out when you rotate the holder, do you?
