Jessops, bless them, were good enough to first replace it and then with the second one, give me a full refund. Having by then invested in a few lenses I bought the D800 with which I have no problems at all. If Nikon had accepted the issue I'd have persevered whilst they fixed, or sought a solution to fix, the problem.
Might just be worth your contacting Nikon before taking the plunge, to see if by now they have indeed accepted the solution, but I haven't heard anything and I wouldn't hold my breath!

From what I've read it seems like a great body, and ideal for my first full frame camera.
I must admit though that the sensor issue has put me off a bit. I did consider the D800, but the price and file size put me off a bit there too.
I'm still pondering so no decision made yet.
