Chat: Monthly competition january - hdr
January's theme is HDR. It's an effect you either love or hate, however, either way, it's worth having a go. There are some good tutorials out there to help you, all you have to do is search for HDR Tutorials in your search engine.

This is the first time I've seen it.

Never done HDR before so completely new for me. I'm crap with computers so this may be tough for me.

I saw the HDR subject post a couple of days ago, and went to get some pictures this morning. Unfortunately the MOD had other ideas and their land agents decided that today was a good day to burn some of the gorse that is choking the heathland near where I live. So this is what I've got so far (that haloing on the right, is the smoke from their bonfire - I promise - which might have been good for last months comp!!)

Whilst the composition of my photo isn't very good, and I've overcooked the saturation and vibrance way too much, this is the first HDR I've ever done, so I'm not sure how unreal HDR is meant to look .

BTW, Thanks for setting the challenge Sabrina/DD, I've learnt something new today.

Thats the whole reason I set up the monthly comp, to get us learning or mastering a new technique

A great topic, HDR can be subtle or full on! I have played around with HDR in the past and find it can work great for B & W images as well as colour.

Here are a couple I did a few months ago:-

Very nice Dave, the HDR treatment really seems to bring out the texture in both shots.

Does anyone have any experience of doing HDR on PSE9??
That's the software I have, but know nothing about HDR. I've looked on Google and there are some tutorials, but wondered if anyone here has any experience??
