Question Canon 450D C.Fn-10

I use this function to be able to completely separate focusing and exposure. When I first started using it I noticed that the focus point facility no longer worked in photo-editing software which I can live with. However, unless the camera is malfunctioning, I notice that I have also lost auto-focusing when using remote control. This happen to anyone else?

I have not noticed the first one, as only Canon's own software points out the focus point and I do not use it. Using the remote makes sense, you are no longer using the shutter button to focus, so the remote will not do it.

Don I have a number of remotes for my 7D including my Android phone and flash triggers. All of them focus the camera.

But are you using rear focus? That is what he is asking about. He using using the AE-Lock button on the back.

My apologise Don, you are quite correct.

I have programmed my 7D to focus from the AF button on the back of the camera, but only from Custom Function 3 (CA3). So effectively my camera will focus via a remote in all setttings other than CA3.

I did check on mine, a remote does not do AF with rear focus enabled. The 7D has different custom functions than our older cameras.

Hello - thanks very much for all that. I'm now beginning to suspect that I lose IS using that function as well.
