Wireless Transmission

Seeing that many devices are now going wireless I thought I would like to go down this route using an iPad to review my images as they were taken, more or less in seconds after pressing the shutter release. I bought and tried an Eye-Fi card and I used it in my G12. I found it to be very slow in downloading and if close to other networks, problematic.

Having purchased a WFT E5B Transmitter for my 7D I found it very unfriendly to set up in Ad Hoc mode. The Canon manual is so over complicated that I had to resort in looking around forums for answers, eventually finding a way of achieving a result which made things very much clearer and almost by accident I got it all working.

Perhaps a review by PhotoPlus with a run down on settings and meanings of network terms used would be a great help to the many people I came across having setting up problems, so many in fact I had to write this message to see if help can be given by the magazine to all those out there with setting up the WFTs from their cameras to an iPad or laptop.

Not ideal but just use the memory card adaptor to transfer them, that's what I do. Doesn't take long to be honest.

Technology needs to move on a bit more before its a viable option IMO.

Wireless is certainly part of the future on cameras and the ability to see images within seconds on a much larger screen such as a tablet is awesome.

What i'm really surprised at is, that the Eye-Fi card hasn't been developed further and faster. I've found it as said to be problematic and slow to transfer.

Canon has compacts along with the 6D that have wireless transfer build into them, so the future looks bright for wireless transfer but in the meantime I think an in-depth run through of the WFT adapters would be of benefit and in my opinion is just what the magazine needs in upping the more experienced users interest. After all the WFTs are part of the Canon family accessories and seeing the mag caters for Canon users, why not?

Networking is perhaps a minefield to many of us and some in depth help by the mag would enlighten myself and many others.

At this time of year when it's not pleasant to be out in the elements we have experienced of late, we still need to use our equipment indoors. Tabletop photography is so very interesting and with the help of wireless transfer, our images can be seen on much larger screens for editing adjustments in camera.

Just released is an excellent remote controller for using with an iPad, IPhone and worth a look as it is not just an image transfer download remote controller but also a remote camera controller all done wirelessly. Nearly all camera setting including focus can be controlled from a distance of up to a minimum distance of 150 metres. At this time there are a limited number of cameras being compatible with it with a promise of many more to come.

I have no business interest with this company other than being very excited about this product as it is something I've waited for for a very long time.

For indoor work I "tether" my Canons and use the EOS utility, of course outdoors is a different kettle of fish. At present for outdoor work I use "DSLR Controller" unfortunately this means the camera is tethered to my Android phone.

So thanks to John for the info regarding Camranger. A little to late to get it as a Christmas present, but will certainly look into this in the new year. Guess I will have to sweet talk the wife, but it will probably cost me a new handbag
