My first attempt at macro..

Hi Guys..

I have just joined this forum today because I am looking for a community of people who enjoy photography, I have caught the photography bug and today I have attempted Macro photography for the first time, I used a Nikon D3200 with 70-300mm Tamron Lens.. here are my efforts which I hope you like and all comments and criticisms welcome.

Enjoy!

D3200 guy.

Hi D3200guy and welcome to the forum ,

I'm not going to beat about the bush here , I just don't have the foggiest idea what I'm looking at . OK they look like some kind of glass beads but without context I can't possibly comment on anything about them .

It would really help if you could tell us something about the images and what you think is good or bad with them .

Sorry it's taken a few days for someone to comment on your shots but the holidays are a very busy time for most people , don't give up on the forum as it is a very good place to learn .

Mark

Welcome to the forum, Guy!

As Mark said, it's hard to comment on something when we don't know what it is. One thing I noticed, particularly in the first photo, was the light source from the left, was shining into the lens. A lens hood is a good thing to use under the circumstance.

I'm not sure about your photos being macro. In my mind, a zoom lens is not suitable for that kind of work. It's a close-up, for sure, but not really true macro. I know some zooms have a "macro" label on them, but, again in my opinion, a true macro lens is a prime lens and more regarded as having 1:1 magnification.

i think it's ice cubes. on my pc the photos looked too dark to tell, but on my partner's laptop they appear light enough to see. no, the photos might not be 'true' macro, but they are good first attempts at close-ups. i have the canon equivalent of that lens and think it allows 1:2 at the longest end.

i like the third shot best from these three - the flare in the first is a bit distracting, and i'm not sure about the cluttered background in the second.

for first attempts i'd say these are pretty ok actually, but that's just my opinion as ever
