Question D3100 & Remote Control

Hi All,

Does anybody know of any Android Apps or Windows software that can be used with the D3100 to allow remote control?
Nikons own Camera Control pro does not work with the D3100!!

Thanks in advance

What sort of range do you need? For up to 10 metres, a £5 "Chinese Cheapie" from eBay will be perfectly satisfactory.

Thank you for your reply but I am not after a remote shutter release as I already have one. I am looking for an App or software to allow live view on a tablet or laptop for the D3100.

I have found a piece of software that will allow me to take a photo with my D3100 which automatically transfers it to my PC so I can view it on the big screen. It is a shame that I have to use 3rd party software rather than Nikons own Camera Control Pro, but on the plus side I have saved myself £177 by not having to buy their software Personally I think they have missed a trick here by not supporting the D3100 & D3200 for remote software capture

I know of sofortbild and diyphotobits software, but haven't used either. I think they support D3100. I checked ControlMyNikon and SmartShooter, neither claim to support the D3100.

Probably after the guide information is put into the camera's ROM, there's not much space left for other stuff like the remote control 'hooks', and Nikon decided - rightly or wrongly - that Guide would be more useful to 99% of the camera's buyers than remote control.

Thanks for the reply greenwing. I used the diyphotobits software which transfers the image straight to the pc which is picked up by Lightroom so you can view it on your monitor. Because I like macro photography this can allow me to see the larger image and check focus and dof.

I have also just managed to get a similar thing on my Nexus 7 so I'm now free to roam

What did you get that worked with the D3100 and your Nexus 7? I've searched far and wide and have had any luck. Thanks!

There is no app that will allow you to have a 'Live View' with the D3100 so the next best thing is to transfer the image from the camera to tablet so you can have a larger view of the image you have just taken. This will give you the chance to check the focus and composition on a larger screen.

I use Rawpal Gallery Lite which allows you to view the image while it is on the SD card whilst still in the camera, and you can transfer it to the tablet if you want. Along with Photo Review Lite which allows you to zoom in and move around the image when it is on the tablet.

Hope that helps

Thanks! I already have that but hadn't tried viewing while tethered. I thought it always downloaded. Thanks for the tip. I may stick to the original plan, a portable TV. At least that will support live view.
