Macro Lenses please??

Looking for a (probably Prime) Macro lens. Budget up to around £200-300 Obviously do not want to get physically on top of a subject, so probably 60mm or 70mm. Using an EOS 450D Would look at Canon Sigma or Tamron. Advice please.

Welcome to the forum.

Probably depends what you mean by 'physically on top of'. Most 60mm macro lenses will give you about 2-3 inches of working distance (front of lens to subject). I prefer the 100mm-ish focal lengths which give a bit more working distance, maybe 5 to 7 inches.Of course, that makes the price go up.

That said, I don't think there's a bad modern macro lens. They're all in the very good to excellent range. You pays your money, and you takes your choice.

The older version Tamron 90mm (there's a new one just been released) would be round about your budget.
