Light tent

Hi all,

I'm thinking of getting a small light tent for use at home and wondering if anyone can suggest some good options for me to take a look at. I've found a couple on eBay and Amazon (links below), and althought there are reviews on Amazon at least, I wondered what the DCM community had to say. I'm not sure if buying lights specifically to go with teh tent are absolutely necessary as I assume that general house lamps will work just as well? If anyone can shed any light (pun kind of intended) on on some good options, that would be great.

Well, I just happen to have both Mine are under other names, but they are pretty much the same. The tent is nice, it works for well for small items. The "studio" is ok as well but the lights are not bright enough. It came with some halogen bulbs and you cannot use higher as it will melt the fixture. I got around this by finding some daylight colour compact florescent bulbs that are brighter, but still not enough. I use it near a window or I use a cheap work light with them for extra light. The table top tripod in mine is different, and useless, I just use my full size one on the floor and have the studio or the tent near the edge of a table.

I mentioned that I use a work light. These are just simple fixtures with clamps. I have one of these:

and a smaller of the same. I use daylight colour (5500K or so) CF bulbs.

I wasn't sure how good the lights would be, and the tripod does look pretty dire to be honest, I was wondering more about the tent itself. I've heard a few people say the're no good, but I'm by no means a professional so I reckon one of these would be good for a first "studio". I've got a few desk lamps and other bright lights that could be used, anyway, wondering more about the effectiveness and build quality of the tent. Sounds good though, thanks for letting me know

The tent is a ****** to fold up again The light diffusion on both is ok, so they are decent for a small studio.

Ha, yeah I've heard that they're a pain to fold up again! In fact I think that's the biggest criticism of them, but if they're a good studio then fair game. They cost £15 to be fair, never going to professional!
