Don't care what others take but I personally do like to try for "different" even if I inevitably arrive at mere pastiche. But then I tend to go for the early "banker" shot, followed by one that I hope to inject a little more interest - so I've plenty of 'birds on a stick' and fewer 'bird in the corner with interesting light'

Shoot what makes you happy and to hell with everyone else (unless you're a professional being paid to meet a brief of course).

As someone said to me recently "Nature never repeats herself" so if it is outdoor landscape it will always be different

I still haven't 'done' my 'lonely tree in landscape.' That's to say, I've done many, but not a single one 'stood out.' (no pun intended.)

And there are many things like this, that, I think, everyone should have a go at. Rite of passage sort of thing.

The scene might be the same but the light falling on those scenes are never the same, there will always be some little difference. But it's always a good idea to try a different take on something that's been done before.

Matt, just please yourself. If you want to shot a thing shoot it. Unless someone is paying you...do what you like.

I dont mind its been done to death but when somebody wont even look because its been done to death really annoys me specially when its family or friends. But ultimately I take pictures of what I want and if I like them there good enough for me

everything has been done to death but it doesn't mean we shouldn't carry on doing it to death so to speak
photography has to be one of the most subjective things on this planet trying to be different is almost an impossible task i will guarantee anything you can dream up will have been done before we all get our inspiration from somewhere

i don't care if my photo's are similar to a thousand different photo's of the same subject after all it's my photo and that very thing makes it important to me

"Smoky" long exposure shots of water (especially with a few rocks sticking out) and impossibly gloomy and usually overdone HDR'd skies are particular bugbears of mine.
Oh and anything with a rowing boat in the foreground.

But having said that, I do like "lonely trees" so I guess it's all horses for courses.
