Hi everyone and a quick question.

Hi everyone.

Just got a D3100 with the 18-55mm lens with Photoshop Elements 11 for editing, after upgrading from a point and shoot and I'm loving the freedom and creativity I now have, just need to improve my skill to match the cameras abilities .

Looked for a good Nikon based mag and found NPhoto and am hooked immediately, looking forward to future issues .

My question is this, reading Feb '13's issue of NPhoto Apprentice article "Shooting the city lights" Tom Mackie said he had a app for the iPhone/iPad called "Photo Ferret" which has photogenic locations, best time of the year to go there etc. with links to Google Maps. I have looked everywhere, the App Store, online, I've asked local photo specialist shops and I cannot find information about it anywhere.

Could someone please at least point me in the right direction to be able to find more information about this app.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi Danny,

Thanks for buying the mag!

I believe that Photo Ferret is not yet available but will be out shortly via Apple Newsstand.

Thanks,

Sam

Thanks for the reply Sam.

I must admit I did start to wonder if I was going mad when I couldn't find anything on it at all no matter where I looked.

I will keep my eyes open for when it comes out.

Welcome Danny,
I'm in the same boat, Just discovered Nphoto and Feb issue is my first and I'm hooked to. That same App got me hunting but I am looking for something similar on Android.

I actually haven't tested it yet, but try doing a look for "Map-a-pic location scout" From what I read this has two versions, the advanced one gives you access to public photo's/locations for scouting for shots. The none-advanced version is a way for you to log your own locations and remember or get directions to those places again.

Being new to photography I think it's a brilliant idea as you take some shots in your early days, then go back there some months later and re-create the shots and see how you've improved.

Thanks for welcome and the tip Rob I'll look into that.

I'm very lucky in that I live in a beautiful part of the country, the Isle of Wight, and so I have some great sights and sites very nearby, it also helps being within spitting distance of the coast with an uninterrupted view, but that being said there are still plenty of things I would like to try photographing that I don't have near so Apps are an excellent help as it's a bit lumpy dragging a laptop round for research.

Thanks again Rob.

Danny
