Chris, I think HDR can be as subtle or as OTT as you like, there is no exact science in this. I normally push the picture to the extreme but the subject has to reflect that. Sky's are always a biggie for me as I think HRD and moody skies do go hand in hand.

TBH I don't think still life works with this topic but that's my thoughts, I like buildings and sky's, landscapes, older internal rooms that sort of thing things that in normal pictures that are a hard finish.

Well that's my waffle on the topic anyway.

i have no chance of an outdoor shot in this weather so not sure what to do. no days off to visit buildings either

I agree with Jeff DD having said that as a non HDR shot that still life would work really well, I loved the composition and layout of the subjects.

wasn't sure how much to crop, so went for rule of 3rds...did i lose too much of the sky now, do you think?

The crop as Reinardina said should have mor sky but it is an individual thing and that's what makes photography so good.
Ifbyou like it then that is it in my opinion, viewed large I love the building.

thank for all the feedback guys - will take another look at these shots and play around before i finally pick one. it's interesting, but the one that's had the most feedback is actually not my favourite, but seems to have the most interest!
