I suspect Curry's and PCWorld may further expand their photography areas to grab the market that Jessops have left.

I think it is a great shame for the people that have lost their jobs but my experience of the stores was not good as the product knowledge or customer service did not seem to be there, I do use the smaller independents rather than buy everything online I like to try and if they are not a million miles away than the web prices then I wil pay that little extra for the service and to pick the goods up there an then!

Interestingly we bought a lot more from local shops this year for christmas than online.

I think longer term if the big high street stores do start disappearing more of the manufacturers will start opening stores more to promote their products and brands rather than direct sales!

Yep I did see that, Sony and Apple have their own stores already I think it will become more widespread though across manufacturers and maybe more roadshowish than permanent stores!

Superb? Maybe, but I think it's unlikely. Canon might invest in a couple of shops in the UK, London & Manchester maybe. The trouble is that if they sell at list price, few will buy from the shops, but if they sell at discount independant dealers will cry foul. There doesn't seem to be a lot of advantage in it for them.
