I believe that the number of shots does not matter and you may need more than 3 to capture the full dynamic range.
Also checking the histogram of each picture will help.
Thanks for the information Jeff, I'll take the tripod out and have another go. And I should be looking at the histogram more than I currently do, so thanks for the reminder.

Cheers

I love HDR - providing it's not too over the top. I use Photomatix Pro, and my personal favourite setting is tone mapping rather than simple fusion.

One I took in October, in France - a lovely bright day with a wide dynamic range and therefore ideal for HDR:

Sometimes, though, you have to go over the top

Be gentle with me, it's my first post for a good eighteen months...

They are both really nice photos Carol,

The HDR process really brings out the colours of the buildings and different green shades of the trees in the second photo.

will HDR only work on a bright day? i'm heading out somewhere tomorrow where i hope to take some shots, but the weather isn't looking too great...should i just 'suck it and see'? been looking up how to do the PP, and understand the idea of bracketing (i think), just wondered about the light situation.

I don't think it only works on a bright day, but you'll have to have the shutter open for longer on a dull day and therefore you'll need to have your camera on a tripod or supported with a beanbag, also there won't necessarily be a lot of cloud interest in the sky.

I went out today, it was overcast and the drizzle had only just stopped. So I thought I'd try to take one without any sky, I came back with this:

My battery ran out as I didn't check it before I went out and I had forgotten to take my spare, so again wasn't able to spend as long doing this as I had wanted. One of these days I might get everything to come together

Oh and BTW there is a HDR tutorial on this site http://www.digitalcameraworld.com/20...c-range-image/

Regards

Nick

Thank you Sabrina and also to Nick.

I love Chambord, so very jealous! I try and get over to it whenever I visit my son - who lives in Tours.

Nice,

We lived in La Ferte Saint Aubin (near Orléans).
And yes, we have a lot of regret that we moved to Belgium. There is nothing over here, no woods, no mountains, only rain, wind and roads and buildings. I hope we will be able to move back to "La douce France" one day!

Nope it will work on a dull day infact my church image was taken early evening on a very cloudy day! I guess it does help if there is something in the sky i.e. clouds or a blue sky. Generally even with non HDR photography you can pick your composition/subject according to the conditions.

I think in general this is going to be an interesting challenge as HDR can be subtle to bring out more detail or maxed out so it looks unreal (as Jeff mentioned). Some people say a good HDR doesn't look like an HDR which could make the entries and voting interesting
