Photo Idea - beginner

Hello guys.

I'm fairly new at photography, and i was wondering what you would do. To take such a picture as this:

Dark Room?

What kind of light?

I'd guess something like two softboxes, one either side slightly behind the subject in front of a dark background (though not necessarily). If you take a look at this months Black + White Photography magazine they have an article on portrait lighting and I think this may be one of the set ups.
