I still think the second needs a different composition to help it as this crop leaves you with the large uninteresting end of the log staring you in the face .
Sorry the third is still not to my taste .

Thank you Mark, I agree the first is a massive improvement. as for the other 2 this time of year when photo ops can be somewhat scarce at least things like this can be revisited so I might go and try again

I like photos with a shallow depth of focus which accentuates the subject. For me, though, the blurry foreground and background make it look as though a Lensbaby was used, and I don't care for the photos they produce. They're gimmicky and expensive but a lot of them are sold, so a lot of people would appreciate your photo.
Somehow, my criticism looks rather harsh but it's not intended to be, and I can't think of another way of saying it. The main thing is, you got what you wanted, and that's what's important.

Thank you John, I didnt know what a Lensbaby did so im quite pleased that my £20 lens can do the same thing lol
Your criticism isn't harsh at all, its your honest opinion and thats what matters and thats why I post my images so people can tell me what they think of them so I can learn to take better ones.
Thank you both again
