Phone vs Camera

My first real day out with my Camera and my phone got better images than I did with my camera :lol:

With the first picture, the composition isn't great - the tree is cut in half. The grass and tree are also a little flat and the sky seems blown out. But the second is image is great, good composition, nice lighting on the foreground, good colours in the sunrise/sunset. It looks HDR, is this a setting in the camera/phone?

Thank you Nick I actually thought the first one was taken with my camera hence the title Phone vs Camera got that wrong oops!!! No the second one was processed a little in lightroom to add an ND grad filter and just a little highlighting here and there. I didnt get anything worth saving from my camera

I love the second picture, my only minor criticism would be that the left hand side of the tree is missing. Had it been the whole tree to me it would have been a more complete picture.

Why not check the settings your camera applied and compare that with the settings on the shots you took with the camera? Were you shooting on Auto or one of the other exposure modes on the camera?

Thank you Dave, it was just a quick photo with my phone. I applied a little PP to it in lightroom

Hi beatnik, I was shooting in full manual mode apart from ISO which was set to auto. It was supposed to be about learning to use the camera most showed up just a little under exposed on the camera screen but on the computer they were really badly under exposed
