Thank you Geoff, no just the built in flash I just held my hand in front of it so it didnt saturate the disc.

Nice one Dave I got the idea from somebody else to. I just wish I had a good enough lens to get super sharp close ups. Wow I just looked at the original size on your flickr amazing detail

Cheers shot with my favourite lens the 100mm f2.8L Macro, if you like detail a macro lens is great one thing to consider is they are tricky to use so a second hand Sigma 105 macro can be had from ebay for around £220 people seem to buy them, give up and flog them.

I had that 105 mm lens on my D80 but when I got a D5100 it wouldn't work at all. The camera would not even turn on with that lens attached. It was out of warranty but I contacted Sigma and they gave me an estimate to upgrade the firmware, so I sent the lens to them and I had it back in about five days, upgraded and no charge, not even for shipping. The only thing was, the D5100 doesn't have autofocus built into the camera as the D80 does. I was disappointed but decided to bite the bullet and get a different lens that would be fully compatible with the new camera.

I had researched macro lenses before I ever bought one, and one blog insisted that the 200 mm macro should be the choice. Cost, however, was prohibitive so I opted for the 105 mm.

I had also read the opinions about optical stabilization on a macro lens. Some said it's worthless. I wondered why, then, would a lens manufacturer build that in if it's worthless. Of course, my 105 mm didn't have that feature.

Then further investigation showed me that an even shorter focal length macro lens would be better. After much discussion with myself, I decided to sell the 105 mm and get an 85 mm with optical stabilization. This lens now autofocuses on my D5100, and it also works on my D80.

I see no advantage of having the longer focal length (105 mm) over the shorter one (85 mm). Both will more than fill the frame. Both lenses may be used for regular photography, too, with one just having a longer focal length. The 105 mm has an excellent reputation for sharpness, but I can see no difference in sharpness between that and the 85 mm lens.

So the 105 mm got sold on eBay to a man in France. I got a good price for it which helped to pay for the 85 mm, and I believe, barring accidents, this macro lens will be with me for life.
