[QUOTE=AlteredMode;84462Those with a professional attitude can always give constructive criticism on the technical aspects whether they like the image or not as all art forms are subjective.[/QUOTE]

Whether we like something or not is subjective; everything else isn't. Not in such a blanket manner, at least.

It's simple to take exactly the same photo and praise it to the skies or damn it to perdition depending on - not whether you like it, not the obvious technical qualities but - why you assume that it was made in the first place.

Smile

Feedbacks ok, that's how we learn. But Not nasty trolling comments like I had on one site.

Bingo! I would rather have just one person tear my images apart with genuine critiques for things I know can be improved than 100 "Wow! Great pic dude!" off-hand comments.

Saying specially what you like and do not like in a photo is the best. I say what you like so that the photographer knows what is good as well as the bad.

Not fussed any more! Pretty much learned everything from online forums - good, bad and indifferent comments on my shots. Be as rude and insensitive as you like but I'll admit to preferring a reason for it!

I welcome critique I post my images so I can learn from others. Comments good or bad I dont mind at all as long as there is an explanation for the comments, you cant tell somebody there image is naff and not tell them why

I have no problem with constructive criticism because we can learn from such. Having our work torn apart is another matter. Some forums provide a place for strong criticism and warn you that it can be merciless. But the other threads are for submitting photos just for viewing. If somebody wants to offer a kind word, that's fine, but the hard stuff must be kept for the critiquing forum only.

I once belonged to a forum that was little more than a cliquish mutual admiration club, where everyone made similar comments: "Great DOF!"... "Nicely done!"... "Awesome!" etc. That kind of thing is tiresome but I visited after a couple of years away from it, and the same people with the same remarks were still going.

I think critique is a valuable way of improving our photography, though I feel that each opinion should be qualified. I really like this because... etc.,or have you tried. It's rare that there is nothing that works for you in an image, so remember to give a balanced view. Technical aspects are a lot easier to critique. However it would be nice, when an image is put up for C&C, that apart from the settings used, a brief note about what you were trying to achieve. After all, if I said '....it looks a little underexposed, but that was intentional as you were looking for a dark moody look, then my comment would be misplaced.

However, over the years of browsing forums and reading critique I've notice that opinions of an image can vary considerably. As someone said some love picasso and others don't(I'm also a don't), so when receiving critique we need to remember that it is all in their opinion, and it is up to us to filter as necessary.

I have notice that virtually no comments /critique is left on the images in the gallery.

We did have a few people upset with having critique put on their images that hadn't been posted in the critique section so to avoid upsetting anyone I stopped passing critique on images in the gallery's , I think this is a shame but unless I know the photographer would be happy to receive comments I wont .
