£300???
That would barely cover the cost of a fraction of kit. That's appalling.

But if it's locked in the car out of sight you will probably find it's covered by your home contents insurance.

I went to Cape Town earlier in the year and was concerned about the low level of cover for photographic equipment included with most travel insurance companies. I was actually going to take out specialist insurance to cover my kit whilst away when I decided to talk to my home insurer. They confirmed the it would all be covered on my home contents policy and the maximum sum was far more than the figure on the travel insurance policy. Also you have the option, for a small fee, to increase the cover value to reflect the true cost of replacing anything lost or stolen.

The only proviso was that if left in a car it has to be securely locked away out of sight - leaving it on the seat is a definite no-no!

I have all my kit listed on my home and contents insurance. I need to check and see if it would be covered if left locked in my car.

Over here, Canada, that would be covered. Car insurance does not cover the contents of the car, your home insurance does. I should see about getting my equipment listed specifically. So far we just have my wife's engagement ring listed.

In my house, there is nt much more important than the wife's engagement ring!

I forgot my watch too. My wife felt if unfair that women get a ring and men just pay for it (over and over some would argue!). I got an Omega Speedmaster Professional watch (the watch that went to the moon). Still cost less than her ring, but not that far off.

I have chosen to disguise my camera body,
I might do that and put a wig and sunglasses on it

To be honest I thought this was a Viz 'Top Tip' , but I did replace my camera strap with an older 3rd party strap so it didn't look new and attractive to magpies.
Did you mean the bird?

I am a bit worried about taking it out, might go to bed with it. What's the best way to disguise a camera? (minus the wig of course).

There is no way really. Putting tape over the name and model, is a waste of time. If it is an SLR it still looks like an SLR and if someone wants to rob you of your "professional" looking camera, they will.

You could get a Nikon 400mm F2.8 AIS lens which weighs 6kg and attach that to your camera. They won't be running away with that.

Or for Canon the legendary 1200mm f/5.6 at 16.5 kg
