Great idea thanks for that , I've had a play but need quite a bit more practice . I put a google search in for adding mist to an image and I have to admit I was amazed at how many really useful links it came up with , I'm trying out the technique you suggested and if I can get something half decent I'll post it up .

Thanks Mark

I think it looks good. But for me the mist on the reeds in the foreground doesnt quie look right. Looks a bit unnatural to my eye. But overall I like it.

As an exercise it's really good fun and I'm learning some great photoshop techniques but even if I get better results I don't think I can bring myself to use the image because I will all ways know that it's false .

I'll keep going on this one because I now see it as a personal mission , I'm going to have to go back to the start because like a Muppet I didn't save it as a photoshop file and lost all the layer's information , I had two main layers one with the white grad on it and another with an image of clouds with a screen blend mode to give the mottled appearance .

I'll give it another go so thanks again for your feedback it's very helpful .

I know why you're saying about edited phots not being 'real'. I feel the same, but I accept that photoshop is part of photography these days. I'd love to get it right in camera every time, but I'm not that good and a bit of simple processing can help my my photos in some cases. But I'm not very good with photoshop either, but I'm slowly learning.

I couldn't agree more about using software to fine tune your shots but when I found myself importing images or samples of images to change what was actually there it made me very uncomfortable , like I said earlier as an exercise it's great for learning different techniques and fun but it would never feel like my image .
