Jonny, I will do research about astro-photography, and try to find a way to participate.

About those clouds for 3 weeks; we had clouds here (google maps - zwevegem (Belgium)) the past 4 weeks.
I've seen the sky every night, I wanted star trails for long exposure.

Crikey. Here's hoping for atleast one clear night then

This is primarily a photograph of the Spring funfair near where I live, not a great example of twilight astrophotography, I wasn't there for the stars though but you can make out Venus (or is it Jupiter?) top right, and I believe, Mercury which is below it.

Fair point I have always interpreted Astro photogaphy as using a telesope attached to the camera via a special adaptor but then thinking about it focal length has nothing to do with it so I will shut my screaming neck

I have noticed BTW it is clear here tonight so think I may go and have a play

Same here I saw a gap and got a couple of test snaps off before the clouds closed again but they are noooo good.

At least I can see a few stars including the plough if you look closely! I used my new tripod but picked it up with the camera still on it and used it

Any tips other than find a better location and keep the tripod on the floor...

Alright then, thanks wavemachine.

Nice work Jimbojumbo, I can see you're on the right track. I can also see the plough. I'm guessing the star near the chimney is a planet not a star, stars twinkle, planets in our solar system don't, and they're generally brighter, that's about all I can tell you. Plenty of material out there though. If you used a higher iso setting for that shot you would have recorded more stars too but this is down to the individual as to what to portray.

Oh, there was something else, please make sure your camera is firmly attached to your tripod before shifting them about together

Supposed to be almost clear and dry every where over night, should be a good time to practice then...
