Question Hotshoe Mic for 5D MkII

Hi,
Apologies if this question has been asked before!
I have been asked to make a series of videos for a fishing club about a variety of angling techniques. The videos are to be shot on the bankside, and I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on whether it is worth buying a hotshoe microphone? If yes, then which one? I have a Canon 5D MkII.
I am extremely new to the video side of things, so any advice would be very much appreciated!
Thank you.
Tom

I was waiting for someone with more experience to give some input before me. If any dialogue is to be used from presenter/contributors/general public then personal mics and/or a boom mic are the way to go , which isn't really going to be possible if it's only you. A mic on the hotshoe is way too far away from the action not to mention wind and camera handling noise. If you only want general atmosphere sounds then yes a hotshoe mic will be sufficient. Any external mic will be better than on-board mics. I'm afraid I can't suggest any particular mics.
