Floodlight shots

I have a Nikon D3100 and have a Nikon AF-S DX [/FONT]NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR Lens. I have taken some great shots of my sons mini rugby during the day, his team are attending a Floodlit tournament and I was wandering is there any way this camera / lens combination would work in a floodlit pitch? Would any additional kit give me more of a chance?

I've not tried shooting under floodlights so I can't answer your question with any experience but the only extra kit that I can think of is a faster lens to cope with the low light levels , something like a f/2.8 but then you could be talking about a lot of money .

I would of thought that the floodlights would give quite a good amount of light but if you find that things are a bit on the dim side then uping you ISO will keep your shutter speed high enough to get good hand held shots .

A fast lens would help. A higher ISO (not so high to make a noisy picture, but you will have to see what that level is). A tripod if allowed or a monopod would help.

lets stick with the kit you have. shoot RAW it may help in post processing to recover detail. you are going to have to up the ISO to get a shutter speed to freeze the action. I would look at a mono pod, as i think a tripod may not be aloud as people may trip over it. good luck
