Probably the eerie effect is created by the several burst of flash which I used manually to lighten the foreground. No HDR.

It really works. Like it a lot. Good work.

Sorry Chris, but there is no 'finish' as such.

Basic conversion from Raw in Lightroom using The "Camera Calibration" Setting of "Landscape" plus a little extra on the clarity slider, also a touch extra in Contrast.
Again just basic editing in Photoshop with a little extra contrast, then sharpened using the "High Pass/Soft Light" method. A little colour adjustment using the "Sponge" tool.

Also minor adjustment using the Shadow/Highlight filter with again an increase in Contrast.

Chris most of the effect is created by over use of the 'Clarity' slider. not sure if you have this in your version of photoshop/ACR.

Great photos and illustrate the theme well Harry, and I agree with you about the polariser. I took this one with a polariser and ND6. I don't like to stack filters for a number of reasons but it was a slow shutter speed in bright daylight experiment. The pola has increased saturation a little but I mainly used it to reduce light transmission like the ND filter by approximately 2 stops.

I need filters..most of my longer shutter speeds are taken during the golden hour because of it.

Not sure yet if this will be my entry but this is MPI Adventure which is a 14,739 GT turbine installation vessel (or as I call it, a Wind Turbine Putter Inner), that was built in 2010 by Cosco Nantong Shipyard, China. It is currently in the Port of Sunderland and is H U G E! I took this during the golden hour as the harbour lights were coming on.

Exposure time, 20 seconds, to achieve a slight blur in the sea and to starburst the lights.
