Rooster

Took my family to the zoo this summer, the rooster was just standing on the fence, it allowed the kids to walk right up to it, never bothering to fly away. I cropped the image slightly to get rid of the barn in the background.

It looks like you're suffering from a slight case of back focus here Starman .

If you look at the cockerel's ( I'm sorry Rooster's ) legs you'll see that their nicely in focus but the head and more importantly the eyes which are closer to the camera are rather soft , this could be due to the rooster moving or you moving after the camera got it's focus lock or it could be down to the camera / lens combo resulting in back focus . I don't know much about Canon cameras but some better spec cameras have an option in the menu to fine tune the focus to individual lenses , then again it could be as simple as you didn't have the head dead center of the focus point in the view finder and the camera focused on something else .

Your crop works well but the background is still a bit cluttered and distracting but I know what it's like when you can't choose the surroundings you just have to work with what you have .

Thank you for your feed back i will check that out next time. I am using a canon lens for my canon camera so i don't think it was a combatablitie issue. I think the rooster may have tilted his head a bit when the shot was taken or i might have moved since i was free holding the camera.
