hi tone2626, also started using what's available lens i have plus the filter. I've started using a 50mm f/1.8 lens plus the raynox filter in front. I've also used 85mm + raynox dcr-250 when I started taking pictures of insects. I've also using an 18-55mm reverse lens for very small subjects or if I want a headshot of my subject.
The key is familiarity with your equipment because i would say that it's a bit hard to use at first. the filter is a good start up specially when budget is concern. hope this helps. ^^

you can do this also if you use it often and become familiar with it, it's hard at first but once you get to know how to use it then everything will follow. good luck and enjoy shooting! cheers!^^

Paper wasp family
And then there were two! I think they are now starting to build a colony. But I prefer to look into this as a paper wasp family, the wasps being the parents with their offsprings (eggs).

I often see this insect sleeping, resting with the same gesture that you are seeing right now on top of leaves. I often see them in botanic garden or Hortpark. Before, I wasn't able to have a chance for a descent shot and I just often ignore this insect and find another one. This fella is so small that tiny vibrations or slight breeze can make the image either soft or blur. Just got lucky that the weather was perfect and was able to take this shot.. finally.
