Smile D5100 raw files

Hi everyone, I have recently purchased a D5100 and love it. I only have Elements 6 and it does not open up the raw files from my d5100. It was fine with my d80. I want to upgrade to Elements 10. Does Elements 10 open up the d5100 faw files? Or if not, which one does? Would I be better off with Lightroom? Thanks for your help

Elements 10 will open RAW files from a D5100. It is a good upgrade from 6.

Would you be better off with Lightroom? That is a question. I switched to Lightroom any very rarely go into PS anymore. I do not often need layers (LR is non-desdructive, changes are not made to the actual RAW file but are applied when you open or, or export to another format). You can download a trial to see if you like it.

There is no save button or menu option in Lightroom. It is automagic! Lightroom stores all changes to the photo in a file. It does not touch the original, anything you do is saved, unless you go to the history and roll it back. If you want to email or upload, you export the file as a jpg or whatever and all those changes are applied on export.

If you are not keeping up with events in MTL, there is a provincial election Tuesday. Always fun in Quebec, especially when it looks like the PQ are going to win. Tuition fees for university are being raised and there have been protests and will be more next week.

The ViewNX software that you should have received with your camera will let you make some basic adjustments to your raw files and then convert them to let you open in Elements 6.
