monitor calibration

Hi all,
Have finally cracked and am now awaiting the delivery of a mac. As it will only be used for photographic imaging etc i would like to calibrate the screen to the printer.

So:-
What system do you use?
Is it any good?
Would you buy it again?

Is it worth the money?

Thanks in advance.

The Spyder series of products from Datacolor are well respected. I use the Spyder 3 Pro and it works very well.

Here's the link:

Calibrating your monitor for printing is a very worthwhile practice and the best place to look for monitor calbration systems is:
http://www.colourconfidence.com

They supply everything you could possibly need to set yourself up for editing photographs and then printing them.

Hi Kas, I am also into calibrating my monitor but I get the feeling that these calibration aids just calibrate your screen BUT that does not say that this is what you will get out of your printer, you seem to have to pay a lot of cash to get one that does both. Keep me posted as to how you come on.

I Use the eye-one display 2. Very easy to use and it certainly makes a difference to the screen.
True it does nothing for the printer but if your monitor is not displaying accurate colours you cannot always be certain what you are actually adjusting in Lightroom & photoshop.
The info that comes with the eye- one advises calibration once a month on a LCD screen and more frequently on a CRT.
Personally I think it was a good investment but equally the quality of your monitor is also a factor.
Let us know how you get on.

an easy free way of calibrating your monitor to your printer is to download one of the many free calibration images ( google images ) and print it
once you have the print hold it against your monitor and adjust the monitor to look as close to the print as you can

hopefully the next photo you edit and print should print the same as the monitor shows

it's not exactly a true science but it works for me and the best thing is there's nothing lost if it doesn't work
