British GP

Hello all, welcome to my first post.

I am a complete photography newbie, and am enjoying learning all I can.

Thought I would share with you my first attempt at motor sport photography with this shot I took from the British Formula 1 GP this weekend:

Shot with my Fujifilm HS10. Maximum zoom (30X), and through a fence.

I found it very tough to shoot the cars as they are obviously moving very quickly, so I found a spot where they were coming straight at me to give myself a fighting chance.

As the weather was overcast most of the weekend, I found it tough to get a balance between a fast enough shutter speed to freeze the cars and setting the ISO low enough to prevent noise.

I have increased the red and saturation slightly to compensate for the rain that was in the air between me and the car, and to make it pop out more, and also increased the contrast slightly.

What does everyone think?

Steve

I think you've done a very good job in very tricky conditions , the main subject in the shot is sharp well exposed and stands out beautifully .
The down side is that you can still pick up on the wire fence ( just ) which is a shame but not a disaster , however the composition does need working on ( in my opinion ) . I like the way you can see the corner that Massa has just come round but I find he is placed to close to the left and heading out of shot , these shots always seem to look better when the subject is pointing into the shot so that he has room to move into , I also think you could probably crop the red and whit barrier from the top to help with the composition a little more .

Great effort and I love the water spray from the wheels , was this from free practice or qualifying ?
