Upgrading D90 to D800 Lense Suggestions

Hello Everyone,

I have the following lenses from my D90;

AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR
AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED
AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G
Nikon AF-S 35mm f1.8 G DX Lens

I am moving over to a Nikon D800 FX camera and would welcome suggestions for lenses.I will be selling ff my DX lenses. The lenses should cover the following styles of photography;

Landscapes
Wildlife
Art Nude
Glamour

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum.

14-24/2.8
24-70/2.8
70-200/2.8
Your choice of 200-400/4, 400/2.8, 500/4 or 600/4. Add a TC14 or TC17 if need be.

Noone said it would be cheap.

These recommendations taken from Nikon's D800/D800E Technical Guide, which I would have thought you'd have read by now.

Chris

Would have read the technical guide once I had purchased the camera. As for the suggested lenses in the guide I like working with primes and was surprised the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G prime was not there.

Having thought again I would like initially to concentrate on lenses for glamour, art nude and landscapes. My wildlife photography tends to be once in a blue moon when I am on holiday trying to whale watch. What I don't want to do is end up with a million and one lenses having to be carried around.

Glamour & Art Nude sort-of imply studio, so you won't be lugging lenses around too much. I suggested the 24-70, and probably the short end of the 70-200 for this, but if you want primes, it's really your choice. The 50mm 1.4G should be quite capable (despite not being in the D800 hitlist). Then again, you might want to use a 20, 24 35 or 85mm prime. Probably not the 20 or 24 for glamour, unless you're feeling a bit retro.

I'm not convinced the 14-24 is the only landscape lens, either. The f/2.8 is good, but who uses f/2.8 for landscapes?

Chris
