Monitor Calibration

I need to calibrate one of my monitors and I have tried adjusting the brightness and contrast but without success.

To give more of an idea on my set up. I use a Compaq Pressario laptop with a Yusmart 17"monitor connected to it.

My laptop seems fine for calibration but the 17" monitor is just a pain at the moment.

Is there any plain simple ways to calibrate monitors or does anyone have calibration devices that they can recommend here in the UK?

Cheers

Neil

A very straight forward way is to use a program like Adobe Gamma but there are lots of other free programs that will do the same thing , if you have Adobe software on your computer already take a look in the control panel and you could have Adobe Gamma already there .

I have Elements 10 but it doesn't have Gamma, I have even tried to see if it can be downloaded separately but so far I cant find it.
