Second hand Nikon?

HI,
My wife has caught the macro photography bug and after seeing the quality of pics from my D7000, would really like a DSLR. We can't afford another new Nikon, so I suggested perhaps a used D70.
Having anothe nikon would mean we can share leneses, instead of buying extra ones and although the D70 is an older DSLR, it's still seems pretty good for a starter.

Any thoughts?

Although i havent personaly used a D70 a friend of mine has one and also a D40 and gets pretty decent images from both i liked my D80 before it was stolen along with my entire bag contents at a charity shoot a few years back . there are loads of great bargains about just now if you shop around and batteries can be purchased from premier ink or 7 day shop for peanuts just make sure you get some kind of second hand warranty and even better a recent service record and you should be ok then in future you can always upgrade . good luck

With a D3100 with 18-55mm VR being sold for £370 after cashback, I would be careful what you spend on a budget secondhand model (many are overpriced). A new camera gives you a new battery, new sensor, new shutter and a full 12-month warranty. Looking at eBay private sales, you shouldn't be paying much more than £100 for a D70 body

God, and I paid £1,300 for mine when launched.

A D70 is a cracking camera and gives great shots but only 6mp. I still have mine but haven't used it for years.

Not with the lens included. Mind you I did buy it from Jessops!

Just sold my D70 to a family friend after years of not being used following D90 purchase. Charged the battery, popped in a CF card and away it went. I was actually surprised at how good the images were compared to new kit.

For someone wanting to get to grips with photography, this would get my vote over an entry level dSLR.

I bought the D70 went it first came out, I've just upgraded to a D90, as I got a new body at a very good price, but I'll be keeping the D70 as it such a good camera, and will be my back up body, I did some macro shots with it, it's a cracking camera, there's a few on eBay at the moment .... and you can still use the older A/F lenses on it, something that can't be done with some of the newer Nikon's
