If the site fails, it will be Future's own fault. They said "We are going hire a community manager, things will be different". Well, I feel lied to, how about you? The community manager spends all the time on FB and Twitter.

I might pop back now and again but for the time being I think I'm going to a forum that's busy and people actually bother to give you feedback on the same day, if not the same hour, and people thank you for helping them, similar to what this used to be like.

If anyone wants to know the details, pm me, catch you around.

I am not so sure I like it over there. Most things that are included on other sites you have to pay for, yearly. Simple things like an avatar, signature, private messages, etc. On top of that, you can only pay via PayPal. I refuse to deal with them.

There's one site I could name (but I won't embarass ***** **** by giving a url) where any response from the management in the same year would be an improvement. The most active posters are the spammers (spam isn't removed) and one of the "hot topics" on the home page is a spam thread....

This is a very lively forum by comparision. There seems to be more than 3 or 4 posts a week.

I thought this may improve but it was just a blip so I will go off to the other phot forum I have joined I had noticed several had moved off.

I have to say FB is not for me and will not be using it.

Know what you mean - but I'll give it a whirl for a bit (without investing in the addons!)

LOL! FB's the domain of spotty teenagers - but not bad for specialist niche areas of interest (just as long as they benefit from a blog/timeline style of input - which is why FB's new timeline makes sense as it's always been that way). Scattergun approach with images and articles don't do anything for me - I prefer a structure
I'm not a spotty teenager and neither are the 400+ friends I have on my facebook page. In fact they are all serious photographers who work in the field. Maybe facebook used to be a place for teens but nowadays its a credible business and networking tool . Where else would I have gotten feedback on my work from Elizabeth Avedon, Brian Griffin and Peter Dench, just to name three of the people who take time to regularly look at my work?

I get exposed to professional work and hear about upcoming exhibitions and books before they are announced, for me that is one of many reasons that facebook works. Also as I am in college Mon-Thursday full time it is easier for me to access facebook and is quicker and more user friendly.

I don't understand the moaning to be honest and never have done. I can't see how future staff can be blamed for the lack of apathy of other users? They can't force anyone to give feedack on photographs and neither can they force people to post. In any case, the gallery section of this site is very busy with hundreds of photographs being posted each day. People are obviously choosing to post their work there instead of on the forum.

Maybe someone should put a sticky on each forum suggesting to people that they offer feedback when they post a photograph of the own. Or perhaps if you notice someone posting their work all the time but not offering feedback just post asking them to become more involved?

The Future staff should be setting a good example, that is what the fuss about them is. They did a relaunch of the site, that should include an overzealous campaign to get people using it.
