That would be a lot of forums. There are forums for each brand, that is enough.

Ha! Most of the equipment forums have not seen new threads this year. What would be the point of forums for individual models?

The situation would get worse not better but if our new member wishes to start a thread on the D800 that ll be good.

I post in a few other places and i think things in general have slowed up over the past 12-14 months. what i do see is photography is on the rise with lots of people wanting to learn, the club i belong to has over 100 members and more joining every year. so why the down turn in posts and activity. there could be several reasons there are more communities staring up so people move on, are we giving the right advice, do we make people feel welcome and do we offer to much.
my own view is that although more people want to learn there are more forums starting up too so we have to make our self more stream line.
not only that since the web page changed a lot of the information it had seems to have gone, well i cant find it and that used to draw people in too. well just my couple of cents and ramblings

I think things have got even worse than when this thread was created.

I check the forums several times a day. It's disappointing when you check after a day and find 4 or 5 new posts, people posting photos for comments but they never comment themselves, or people who ask questions that other members go out of their way to help with but the original poster never comes back to acknowledge any help they get.

Also when you post up photos and people check them out but don't leave their thoughts, check out the photo threads and see how many have zero comments, or just one or 2 often the second one is the original poster thanking the one person who commented.

Lots of the regulars appear to have either left or slowed down their involvement and they're not being replaced by people who are active.
I'm not usually one to look on the bleaker side of things but have recently been looking around for somewhere else, unfortunately, most of the other UK mag forums are even worse/quieter than this one.

I have seen that too. The part about asking the question and then never coming back to see the answer or acknowledge the answer is really annoying. Although, not as annoying as being given all sorts of advice to do one thing and they will not do and keep on complaining. That user knows who they are

I am disappointed when I post photos and get no comments. However, I know I am not the best at making comments on others. One reason many may not, is that there are a lot of novices on here and they may feel they are not qualified to comment. Everyone is entitled to an opinion so go ahead!

I've learned from long and painful experience that comments are (generally) expected to follow a well worn pattern to be acceptable - always start by praising, and never find more than two faults. And never express yourself at length. I don't comment in that way, and I've found that I cause offence if I comment on anyone's photos who doesn't know me; and I've been told by one person that my comments are too intimidating for someone not expecting them. Hence, don't expect comments from me.

Stephen,

from my perspective, I disagree, I think most people can accept criticism and suggestions. There might be one or two who get offended, that's their lookout. If someone didn't like what you said, don't comment on their stuf again, their loss, what about all the other people whio might like a bit of help and support?

It's a shame you allow people like that to dictate the way you interact with a forum. If everyone did that, forums like this would die....oh wait a minute!

Quite so. I put my stuff up specifically because I want others to tell me what they think - no holds barred. But, I get literally hundreds of hits without so much as a whisper.
Trust me guys, I'm not posting my pix to show you how clever I am. If I was that good I'd sell 'em.
