Aircraft lens

Hi all
I am useing a 400D and i am looking for new lenses mainly for airshow use, at present I am useing a Canon 70-200 non is lens.
The Canon 100-400 lens is out of my price range so I am considering the Sigma 120-400 OS, any thoughts on this lens or are there any alternatives.
Also looking for wide angle zoom, Tokina 11-16 F2.8 or Sigma, any help and advice most welcome.
Thanks
Jeff

i used the sigma 135-400 on my 40d and got some superb aircraft shots with it ,and thats without i.s hand held ,i,m currently using a nikon d90 with a sigma 150-500 os and having difficulty with the fact its not letting enough light in and just that bit to long ,and am seriously looking into selling and reverting to the sigma 120-400 os ,having read the write ups it looks like a serious piece of glass for the money

The trouble with the 120 - 400mm is it's no faster, and fast glass is going to cost more money. You might look at the Sigma 100 - 300mm f/4 which is an often overlooked lens which offers excellent image quality and can be picked up quite cheap off ebay. It should give better results than either the 150 - 500mm or the 120 - 400mm. If you have some serious money to spend there's the 120 - 300mm f/2.8, but it's a bit of a monster in terms of size & weight.

The 100 - 300mm can be used with a 1.4 TC to give a 140 - 420 at f/5.6

For wide angle the Sigma 10 - 20mm and the 12 - 24mm merit some serious consideration, the Canon lens is good but pricey (nothing new there!), however you might want to consider the new Canon 15 - 85mm which has received some good reviews and will give you a great standard zoom which you won't have to change very often, the equivalent FOV is 24 - 135mm a great focal length to have. Currently it's £580 but it's only just been released so expect that to fall, probably to nearer £400

Hi
Thanks for posting, I think the 300mm may be a tad short in reach for some of the venues we go to.
I will certainly take a look at the sigma 10-20mm wide zoom.
Thanks again
Jeff
