Active D-Lightning

Hi guys!

I'm a bit of confuse using D-Lightning. D-Lightning can produce noise in a photo even your ISO is 100?

From what I have read active D lighting slighly under exposes the image and then boosts the shadows and darks as a sort of in camera post processing stage, doing this with shadows and darks can reveal some noise.

I have spoken to some serious Nikon users in the past who recommend it is switched off because:-

1. It can introduce noise
2. It uses more battery power.
3. Slows the burst down

If they feel certain areas of the shot need boosting they tend to do it themselves in RAW editing software.

I am not a Nikon user BTW so only speak from the experience of others.

I have found D Lighting helpful when shooting Jpeg on the Nikon 14-24mm and 400mm F2.8's which don't take front filters. It gives you a quick Punt at a mild HDR effect.
