First photo is the Sigma, single focused on the window. Black dot showing this.
Second photo is the Canon, single focused on the window. Black dot showing this.

(((Right-click and 'view image' for a bigger photo)))

I don't like the focusing on the left hand side.

I'll be sending Sigma(UK) an email about it soon to ask what I can do.

When I received the lens from Sigma(UK) they enclosed a note saying that they've fixed the '4th group lens'. What is the 4th group lens?

Have you got any idea how frustrating this is? You keep posting images which are completely useless for determining lens performance.
For heaven's sake, will you please do the tests we're all telling you to do and put us out of our misery.

Not only do you look like Eddie Jordan, you're also starting to sound like him!

You probably don't like the focus on the left because that's the side where there's detail in the foreground. If the window that you focussed on is that one in the middle of the frame, in the far distance, I think that the foreground is doing quite nicely.

Note to DCW admins (if they ever look): It's SO frustrating not being able to just drop an image into a post. I could show the OP what I'm seeing, but really don't want to post a picture in my DCW gallery or anywhere else to be able to link to it. The only place I want it is HERE!

Crop the Sigma picture to the same view as the Canon, and downsize the Canon to the same size as the cropped Sigma picture, then play spot the difference.

Your lens has been to Japan to have the 4th lens group adjusted. I think we can assume that it came back to you as good as Sigma can make one of those lenses. That leaves 2 options from what I said earlier, camera or user fault.

Nope, still not doing the newspaper test, as I said before the writing is blurry anyway. So I don't see any point in it.

No it isn't that. Look at the above post with the photo of the cottage.

The text of a newspaper may be blurry, but if your photo of it is in focus you can see the same blurriness, in detail.

I don't see the point of printing off a piece of paper, throwing it onto a worktop, pointing a camera at it, and calling that a test, but that's what your test chart shots look like. I think you focussed (or allowed your camera to focus) on the Focus Test Chart V2.00 text, rather than the FOCUS HERE text. As such, it looks OK.

This is more of us not speaking the same language. I looked at the post with the cottage; and really couldn't work out what you chose as a focus point. Even given a clue, I think the windows of the cottage on the right are too far off centre for the second picture.

EDIT: Oh, the Scottish cottage. Wasn't that taken before the lens went to Japan? If the left of that image was soft (and I couldn't say whether it was or not) because of the lens, maybe that's what was adjusted.
