There are all sorts of abstracts, if you google them you might be overwhelmed, I think.

Andy, especially for you, I collected some of my abstracts, just to show you what I consider an abstract.
(Mainly details - close ups - of bigger things, colours textures etc.

Depending on the sort of shot, I sometimes like to give the colours extra bite in post processing.

On this shot the following pictures:

Vertical pictures on the left, from top to bottom:

Drink, Paint splattered over a mural, a Drainpipe.

Right hand side, top to bottom:

Edge of a fountain basin, Corner of hotelroom furniture shot at an angle,* Victorian masonry, Detail of a wall, Detail of a shutter.

* Someone called this 3D Mondrian, which quite pleased me, especially being Dutch myself!

Hope this helps!

It's all relatively old stuff, I dug out of the archives.

Paul, I think your entry is a beauty of an abstract. One of the many types of abstracts, I should say. If you really get into it, you'll find so many 'official' desriptions, that almost anything goes. (This is my personal opinion, not an 'official' line!)

I agree, anything does....so long as when youlook at it you say "How weird" or "What is it" then its abstract! Dictionary definition as far as the arts go is......

a.
of or pertaining to the formal aspect of art, emphasizing lines, colors, generalized or geometrical forms, etc., especially with reference to their relationship to one another.
b.
( often initial capital letter ) pertaining to the nonrepresentational art styles of the 20th century.

There now!

Try it from all angles, then go berserk with the processing.
