new 17-85mm lense

hello everyone

I would like to upgrade my 18-55mm kit lense and was thinking about the
canon 17-85mm, or the tamron 17-50mm lense, can anyone tell me which is the better lense
that would be a good walkabout lense

regards ron moore

I have a Tamron the non vc which is a lovely lens. Although my first one was rather soft at the edges so i returned it and bought one in jacobs. It's fast and much lighter than canons/nikons f2.8 offering. Its a very popular lens with plenty of happy customers. If you want a little more reach but loose the f2.8 at the top end of the zoom look at the sigma 17-70mm which is another great lens. I decided i wanted the f2.8 at 50mm so went for the Tamron. I'm propably going to sell my 50mm prime as its no sharper than Tammy.
