I think it is because they had to do a reprint, first run was sold out, and I presume they only pressed sufficient CDs for the original print.

It's probably technically copyright theft but to be honest I can't see Future prosecuting you for supplying a copy to someone who has bought the magazine and Future can't supply a disc. And that's technically wrong as the magazine is advertised as having a cover disc so they really should supply a disc.

I would be more than happy to oblige but unfortunately I did not buy a copy.

Someone at Future put the disk contents together, in cases like this couldn't they just put a copy together on a cd-r and mail that? Whilst not ideal it would at least ensure that users who wanted a copy got one, without the need for them to go looking elsewhere.

Just on a quick question is there any plans of a binder to keep the mags in because they are to good a quality for the wife to pick up and throw in the bin when I leave them lying around.
Hi Geoff
We will definitely do binders at some point - as they have proved popular with our other photo magazines, and as you say, they stop your back issues taking over all your floor space.

I guess we are likely to launch them when we have done about 12 issues - so keep a neat pile until then!

I like the mag, but it does not tell me anything about what makes Nikon different, better, worse or perhaps easier to use than other makes.

I have paid for a years subscription, so I will see what happens.
100% Nikon!
Glad you have described to subscribe and give us a chance. However, must pick you up on a couple of your comments - as they might be misleading to those who have not seen the magazine yet...

Although 100% Nikon, we do and will cover other lenses and accessories that will work with a Nikon body. Our lens tests in issues 1 & 2 for instance cover the full range of options for Nikon users - inculding Nikkor, Sigma, Tamron and so on. This is because many Nikon users use non-Nikon accessories. However, unlike other photo magazines we won't include Canon, Sony, Pentax lenses that will never work on your Nikon...

We assume that all our readers have Nikon SLRs - and therefore have already made the decision that Nikon is best. We don't therefore waste pages extolling the relative merits of, say the D7000, over other manufacturers semi-pro models. Our interview pages, pro features and reader pages do make constant reference to the rich heritage of the Nikon system- and why particular photographers chose the mode that they did.

Our view is that a 100% Nikon mag makes us less generic than other photo magazines. We can use the names of features as you find them on Nikons, and show images of the buttons and screens that you find on your Nikon. And every picture in the mag is shot on a Nikon camera..And we can do very Nikon specific things - such as our 12-part guide to Nikon Capture NX2

Hope you enjoy your subscription - and will be glad to hear your thoughts as to how we are progressing

Happy new year

Chris

Thanks for listening

Is there any chance you can help me out with a cover disc or online access to the contents. I bought online as I could not find the mag in the local shops but when I emailed to say There was no disc I was told it was advertised with no disc. Sorry I didn't see that in my rush to order the mag although I must admit i did see something about a disc but it didn't register ( my fault as I tend to do too many things at once and multitasking is not one of my strong points) as with the mag being full price I thought it would be complete. This has meant a bit of a negative start to N-photo for me. I have ordered issue 2 and have been told I will get a disc with that.

If I subscribed to the online version (my favoured way of buying magazines these days)would I get access to the tutorials from issue 1?

Ah! Footski! You live in a very beautiful country that hosted two world-renowned Artists (on from Central Spain and one on the South Coast (please guess which ones I am talking about folks!) Sorry to hear though that you've been charged the full amount for a magazine - still, its a better magazine by far from others of their ilk, since they are independant and cater for just the Nikon alone, without the Canon trying to take over the proceedings! northumbrian1

Thumbs up

I actually liked your review on the Flashguns, Chris - though I am surprised that you chose the SB700 over the SB900 (which I have and use with my D3000 DSLR) as being the best of the bunch!? It might have a lower price and more bleeding-edge wizardry under the hood, but for sheer power and different uses, the SB900 has got to be better for its Professional Status and its penchant for being up front to challenge any situation that might try and undermine a photographer whether he or she is a professional or an Enthusiast! I would love to own the DX3, but for the moment at least, I'll have to stick with the D3000 until I can afford to buy the D700 as that is the next camera I intend to buy (unless I win on the National Lottery)! northumbrian1

Post First Issue

My subscription started with Issue two as well and I found that all the other magazines had been snapped up in Blyth's Asda and Ashington (Northumberland. I did eventually get Issue 1 opposite a White Elephant of a pub, in the local Post Office in Nursery Park Ashington!

I've beein into photography since I was twelve, with a new version of the Box-Brownie by Kodak. Shortly after that I was encouraged to set up a darkroom under our Stairs in our family home in Liverpool. I've done colour photography, as well as Sepia and Cyanotype using chemicals.

Nowadays I use a bog-standard D3000 DSLR from Nikon though I still have my old Pentax ME-Super (film) camera which still works, though I've switched from Darkroom proper to Adobe Elements 9 and Nikon's Capture NX2 which is quite rad after what I used to use. Its so much easier to work from my laptop or my main Server these days. Do write and let me know how you have got on? Incidentally, i'm seventy years old and still going at photography like a teen-ager, riding my bike around Northumberland and taking pictures of the jewels in England's (hidden) Crown!
