Olympus users left our as usual

Having got the preview of N-photo magazine in the December issue of Digital camera I am again annoyed that olympus users are being left alone to have nothing like it for themselves.

If you are going to pick favourites and have a Nikon magazine and talk only about Nikon cameras and lenses, then all there is for Olympus users is to stick with Digital camera, a magazine i Like but still one that's got lots more nikon, Canon, sony and other cameras in it with little room left for the big O as it is.

At this, rate what's the point? I may as well just but a Sony if that is the next one?

Gstitt,

I spend a lot of time looking at the sales figures of different camera manufacturers as part of my job as the news reporter, and, whether or not you like it, Canon and Nikon still sell the most DSLRs (though Sony is no.2 in terms of total camera sales, which includes compacts and compact system cameras).

It's an interesting point, and perhaps there would be some interest in providing a magazine for Olympus photographers (although I believe there is already one of those on the market), but it's difficult to know whether it would be *enough* to make it a worthwhile financial proposition.

I will pass on the message to our publishers though - you never know what is around the corner I suppose!

Amy

P.S. It's also worth noting that in the magazine, as far as reviews go, we can only include what is available on the market - Sony has recently introduced new SLT cameras, whereas Olympus has not produced a new SLR in some time. We have instead included reviews of the new Olympus PEN series recently though. Can you let me know what kind of Olympus coverage you would like to see in the magazine and I will also pass this on/see what we can do in the testing team.

Thankyou for your kind responce and for taking the time to answer me, Amy.

i have tried the official Olympus magazine and found it was not to my level for example there is a constant emphasis on 'the pros' whatever they are! And I could never find it in my local Morrissons, you can only subscribe and what's the point of that if you don't even know what's in it LOL.

I'm sure that Olympus will have something up its sleeves and they will bring out another SLR at some stage, though I love my Pen and often use it with the MF mount to attach my old lenses, is this the way things are going to be for ever, I don't think so, it's just a matter of time. I predict Olympus will come out with a new camera and a bigger better sensor than before, or maybe a new Fourthirds chip that will 'pack in the pixles'.

On another note, with all of the Canon and Nikon users going to other magazines now with PhotosPlus for Canon users and NPhoto for Nikon users, who will even need to stay with Digital camera – maybe it will be just for us Olympus and other camera makes to enjoy!

Hears to that!

Well maybe... though of course a lot of the magazine is non-brand specific, only reviews etc that naturally have to feature certain brands.

We are always looking for feedback however, and if we on the testing team can do something to help meet your needs we will certainly take on board suggestions.

I think with so many camera brands someone is always going to be left out. Canon and Nikon are the largest of the brands so they will get more mags etc... I still think film, photograms and other processes still have a major part to play in photography and would love to see some mags have sections for them. At the moment you are looking at mags such as hotshoe, bjp for example but none of them have how-to guides or introductions to the various methods.

Yes there are now dedicated mags to Nikon and Canon but they aren't affecting Digital Camera mag's sales. Far from it. We'll continue to produce the best quality magazine we can and as Amy says we have no axe to grind against Olympus. We always try to include their cameras in group tests and review new models when they come out.

Thanks to the editor for replying to me. I have had to change my user name as the way of getting to grips with the new look website, which I must say looks very swish. I have filed a post in the forum about another issue I am having about picking a new camera. I am just sick of making the best of things as an olympus fan and though I will always love them as a camera, I am really looking for something new this time. I have a lot of time to learn a new camera system , so there's nothing holding me up. And I just need some advice on what to get.
