Nile dawn

This is a shot I took at dawn on the River Nile a few years ago.

Can any of you make suggestions as how I can improve it in Photoshop, particularly the burnt out area. I have used the recovery slider in Camera Raw to it's maximum and I tried an exposure layer mask, which really did not work.

I have also tried re-cropping to exclude the streak of the sun but the balance did not seem quite right after that.

Once the detail has gone, it's gone buddy.

You could however copy a patch of the water (to the right of the burnt out area) and patch it under the burnt out area.

I dont find it too bad myself I like the shot. I like the depth of the layers and the tones so worth trying.

The only way is the patch tool IMO

You're right about there being no detail left there. The recovery slider was able to pull back a little around the edges but nothing else. Looks like I'll have to try your patching suggestion.

Thanks.

I liked the way the tones worked in layers myself, but I felt the bright streak was very distracting. One of the hazards of shooting into the sun I'm afraid.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll give them a try.
